  3.                  EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE COOPERATIVE

  5. Educational software is one of the most popular and fastest-growing
  6. categories of software. In 1992, the Educational Software Cooperative (ESC)
  7. was founded by Andy Motes, author of the award-winning "School Mom"
  8. program.
  9.  
  10. Incorporated in 1994, ESC is a nonprofit organization whose purposes are to
  11. advance the mutual benefit of authors, publishers, dealers and distributors
  12. of educational software; to voluntarily cooperate formally and informally
  13. with each other to better develop, advertise, distribute and sell
  14. educational software; and to provide the public with information regarding
  15. the benefits, uses, and availability of educational software.
  16.  
  17. Software users, educators, developers, publishers, distributors, and others
  18. work together to promote these goals.
  19.  
  20. A wide variety of educational software titles for both children and adults
  21. are available on a CD-ROM which can be purchased through many of the Author
  22. and Vendor members. We expect to produce a new CD approximately every six
  23. months.

  25. We currently publish a bimonthly newsletter containing articles written by
  26. ESC members and associates, along with product reviews, tips and
  27. suggestions for better ways to write and market software and discussions of
  28. educational issues. In this newsletter, you'll also find a list of new
  29. program additions and updates.

  31. Since June 1993, the ESC has had its own section on CompuServe where its
  32. members can communicate directly with each other and the public. You can
  33. participate in this section whether or not you are a member of ESC. Just
  34. enter GO EDFORUM at any CompuServe prompt, and join us in Section 2.

  39. Our activities have included participation in trade association events in
  40. Indianapolis and Atlanta. This year, we presented the first annual People's
  41. Choice Award for Best Educational Shareware at the Shareware Industry
  42. Conference in Scottsdale. We work with other organizations on issues, such
  43. as software ratings, that affect the industry as a whole.

  45. All officers are unpaid and elected by the membership. As with any
  46. organization, there are costs involved, requiring a membership fee to be
  47. collected on a yearly basis. Basic annual membership dues are $25.00, and
  48. include a newsletter subscription and one copy of the CD-ROM. Contributing
  49. ($50), Supporting ($100), and Lifetime ($1000) members receive additional
  50. CDs and special recognition for their important contributions to our
  51. ongoing efforts. Membership is renewable each April.
